7 Ways I Stay Grounded While Building A Business
I know things feel scary and uncertain right now… The state of the world. The political climate. The noise, the chaos— and on top of it all, trying to build a business that asks so much of you.
It’s a lot for a nervous system to hold. Some days, staying regulated feels like the work itself. So here are a few gentle ways I come back to myself when everything feels loud.
Here are the practices that keep me grounded:
001. Change your environment when you can.
Sometimes the most supportive thing we can do is simply leave the house. A new space, fresh air, a different view—it reminds the body that we are not stuck.
002. Have an accountability buddy.
Someone safe to share the highs and the lows with. Entrepreneurship can be deeply isolating, and we were never meant to carry it alone.
003. Limit screen time and doom-scrolling.
Our nervous systems aren’t designed to process humor, ads, tragedy, comparison, and urgency all within seconds of each other. Step away. Focus on your real, present day. That’s where your power lives.
004. Return to your “why.”
When self-doubt creeps in and spiraling feels close, slow down. Make tea. Open your journal. Light a candle. Get honest with yourself about why you started and what you’re working toward.
005. Make rest and breaks non-negotiable.
Pause even when you feel like you “shouldn’t.” Five minutes to breathe, stretch, or step away can shift everything. And yes—make time for play. True rest is productive, even when it feels uncomfortable for our business brains.
006. Nurture an identity beyond your business.
Our work can become our entire world if we let it. Find hobbies that remind you who you are outside of what you produce. You are allowed to be more than your output.
007. Care for your body as an anchor.
Movement has always been my medicine—nature walks, Pilates, yoga, the gym. Pair it with nourishing meals, warm tea, and gentleness. When the body feels supported, the mind follows.
You don’t need to do all of this perfectly. You just need to keep choosing yourself—again and again.
If today feels heavy, let this be your reminder: you’re not behind, you’re not failing, and you’re not alone.
